I think this is good. It's a good list.
If you wanted to get people involved in the actual list itself, you could have people add on what their away message was at the time of the post, or what some of their friends' were. Honestly, I find away messages pretty interesting because everyone's "away" style is different.. So it'd be cool to see a BUNCH of examples. :)
PS: I have "...That's the Genius of America..." on my buddy list too.. :-P
I've always been fascinated by the sociology of away messages. Any of us who grew up using AIM have a nasty habit of constantly checking them, don't we? I really like all of the different dynamics, or as the previous comment notes, "away styles."
You seem to adhere to the syllabus really well. Like you, I wanted to do my project based on information that was already there, and not asking people to create something. I think there are so many ways to find creativity with the information we already have. I think the most authentic creative pieces we can make for this project will come from information that is already there, and not asking people to contribute. That's just my opinion!
I really like your collection of away statuses and think it would be cool to see these written out in some sort of creative design or file. I think just listing them on our blog or just copy and pasting would be a bit mundane. Then again, if you think about it, keeping them all in one place, in one font would put a thread of similarity in to what is a very diverse collection of peoples' lives.
OK, grab as many of those as you can - see if you get more, perhaps ask all those people to send you theirs? Then you'd have several collection. Then, I'd suggest doing something simple with them - perhaps dumping them into MovieMaker and scrolling them? Or even a PPT presentation. Let them move a bit... Try that!
