Project #5

For project #5 I'm going to make a how to get ask a girl out videos. I'm going to ask my friends to help me in the videos. They are going to serve as the actors. Each video is going to teach on how to properly ask a girl out and also the do's and don'ts in dating.

I'm going to use a video camera to record the scenes and edit them on Widows movie maker. Then, I'm going to upload the videos on my blog. Before each video I'm going to give a introduction about each video and give an outline on what's going on in the videos.

Project #5

I'm going to do something with pictures and location. Like, get my friends to take pictures around Morgantown and send them to me. When I go home for Thanksgiving I'm going to take pictures of the different places in Pittsburgh as well as some college campuses.

Blogs

I love Blogs. There are about 3 Blogs that I read on a daily basis: Bossip, We Must Ignite This Couch, and Kanye West's Blog. Blogs are a way for people to express their opinion through the world wide web. There are all kinds are blogs, like political, fashion and entertainment.

Blogs are important today because much of the world is technologically based and it's an easy way to see what else is going on the world. It also is a way for people to give their opinion about certain topics and issues in the world today.

Thoughts on Project #5

This by far is the most difficult project. I really don't know what direction I'm going to go in to make it "mix reality." Human pacman sounds fun, but I think it would be very difficult to organize. I know that I want it to be creative.

The Beauty of Away Messages

I decided to work with away messages for Project #4. I took the away messages from my friends on my buddy list and put them into 6 different categories--school related messages, election related messages, "I'll be back messages," philosophical messages, random messages, and angry messages. Then, I asked my friends to IM their friends away messages and added them to the 6 different categories. I used powerpoint to display my findings.

The category with the most away messages was random away messages. It seems like people like to put random sayings on their away message to attract people like me, who stalk people through AIM. The second most used away message was the "I'll be back like I left something category," which basically is a fancy way to stay I'll be back.

In general, when comparing my buddy's away messages to their buddy's away messages, both were very similar. All of the messages pretty much fell into the categories that I created from my buddy's away messages. I did not find too many scandalous things through away messages. The most I found were swear words. I guess my buddy wasn't having a good day.

With my findings I found that there is no distinct purpose for an away message. Some people use it as an actual answering machine. When your friends see that you are 'away" from your computer (which is a default away message) they will IM you anyway knowing that you will get the message when you return to your computer. Much like an actual answering machine.

Other people use their away message to limit the amount of people who IM them--sort of like a filtering technique. Less people are likely to bother you when you are "away." When I am logged onto my AIM account, I find that people will randomly IM me and start meaningless conversation if my away message is not up. Even when I put my away message up, people will still IM me. So, I guess I sometimes I have to be offline or invisible in order to avoid conversations.

Rough Draft of Project #4

I decided to take all of my AIM Buddy's away messages and use them as everyday multimedia writing.

Thought on Project #4

I'm still unsure on what direction I want to go with this project. I do have a few ideas, though. Making a list of likes and dislikes and asking my friends to add to the list would be one idea. Or, listing the streets I lived on would be another. I know I want it to be creative and out of the box.

If I choose to go with the listing streets idea, I was thinking about using google maps as a reference point for all the streets I have lived on and also streets that my friends have lived on. I googled the name of the first street I lived on and found pictures of houses in my neighborhood. I found that interesting.

Streets I lived on...
1. Allequippa St.
2. Burrows St.
3. Oakland St.
4. Community Drive
5. Beechurst Ave.
6. Riverview Court

I lived on Alequippa Street growing up. I moved to Burrows Street the summer before my freshman year of college. My freshman year I lived in Pierpont which was on Oakland Street and my apartment number was 412. It is ironic because I lived in Oakland in my hometown and my area code is 412. My sophomore year I lived on Community Drive in Sterling Ridge apartments. My junior year I lived on the busy street Beechurst Ave. And, finally now I live on Riverview Court. I could use this data on google to identify where I have lived in my lifetime.

Thoughts on Project #4

I am interested in doing my project on conversations I've had with my friends. These conversations could be through text, AIM, or by e-mail. I'm not sure if I want to make it too personally or "scandalous".

Project #3 Metatext

My boyfriend recently introduced me to a guy named Ryan Leslie. I had already seen his video for "Diamond Girl" and "Addiction" and I thought that he was just another singer with no talent, trying to make a name for himself. So, I decided to do a little research on Mr. Leslie and was surprised to find out that he graduated from high school at the age of 15 and then graduated from Harvard at 19. I thought this kid was a boy genius and decided to find some youtube videos on him. I came across the video below on him making the "Addiction" beat by himself. He is an amazing singer/producer/song-writer and my new favorite person in the world because it is rare that you find someone today with his talent level.

After having the song "Addiction" stuck in my head, I decided to use the lyrics for this project. I used the Shannonizer tool for the first text of project #3. I decided to edit the text in God's words. The results were that the "new" song lyrics transformed more into a religious song, with lines like: "I see no other gods before me and you You're my addiction." This parallels with the original song and made me play closer attention to what the song could be interpreted as. At first listen, it appears as though Ryan Leslie wants the girl to know that she is his addiction, i.e., "when [he] looks into the, baby you are all I see." But, when I analyzed the original song, it coincides with when someone says they have an addiction to someone else besides God. This brings up a moral issue because can you really have an addiction to someone and it be greater than your addiction to God.

The second text is addiction according to googlism. Some key aspects of this text was the general sense of addiction, like being addicted to drugs and alcohol. Also, being addicted to God comes up again. "Addiction is a hunger for God" is what googlism came up with and it again is related to the Ryan Leslie song "Addiction."

The third and final text is an Addiction Sonnet. The sonnet's theme is addiction to drugs and alcohol. "I had to drink in the morning to start," is in the third stanza and suggests the addiction of someone who has to drink in the morning in order to start their day. The sonnet also references suboxone which appears to be a drug and alchohol rehab center.

Translated quote from Barack Obama

Since I am a Barack Obama fan, I decided to translate a quote from him on change into French.

Changement ne se fera pas si nous attendons d'une autre personne ou à un autre moment. Nous sommes ceux que nous attendions. Nous sommes le changement que nous recherchons.

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.

Beyonce's "Irreplaceable" Edited by God

Mmmm to the LORD: Let my stuff Yes, behold, and see if shes home Oops I bet you think I didn't know not take the car that he said: I didn't know bout me I will not know bout How about I'll never ever find a cab Standing in vain; and arise, that's my daughter! And thou after my son of the God of the left In the gate of scarlet, he'll be smitten down before Israel. Arise, nor his maid-servant. Thou shalt not your everything irreplaceable irreplaceable How I'll never ever for you, he'll be here in the car that thou done so? Because you nothing, what is truth of the box to thinkin You're irreplaceable)? Nothing at any thing that jag So don't you, nothing nothing, until our brother unto his ass, to my stuff Yes, behold, my name, talking bout me I say unto his city of the front yard, to the matter is the murderer shall surely be here in a minute baby You got me and said: I say unto his ass, to the LORD thy hand under my stuff Yes, talking bout me. Now therefore, that's my name of Egypt; then the ears of the fish, nothing nothing nothing)? So go move your taxi leaves Standing in sackcloth, that's my bone and see if the smiter and the matter is so easy. Verily, my people go ahead and see if shes home Oops I will make thess swear by tomorrow So go beyond the left In the car that I can have another you by the box to my name thats on that they may serve me You must not defile the LORD thy lips are like a wife for you was putting you a minute baby You must not know bout me You must not defile the front yard, if the LORD: Let my name, and, behold, he'll be here in a pomegranate split open, before me I could have hardened his ass, at all to the LORD spake unto him, he'll be nothing, nor his maid-servant.

Here are the originial lyrics to the song "Irreplaceable"--
Mmmm to the left, to the left
Everything you own in the box to the left
In the closet, that's my stuff
Yes, if I bought it, baby, please don't touch (don't touch)

And keep talking that mess, thats fine
Could you walk and talk, at the same time?
And it's my name thats on that jag
So go move your bags, let me call you a cab

Standing in the front yard, telling me
How I'm such a fool, talking 'bout
How I'll never ever find a man like you
You got me twisted

You must not know 'bout me
You must not know 'bout me
I could have another you in a minute
Matter fact, he'll be here in a minute (baby)

You must not know 'bout me
You must not know 'bout me
I can have another you by tomorrow
So don't you ever for a second get to thinkin'
You're irreplaceable?

So go ahead and get gone
Call up that chick, and see if shes home
Oops I bet you thought, that I didn't know
What did you think
I was putting you out for?
Because you was untrue
Rolling her around in the car that I bought you
Baby, drop them keys
Hurry up, before your taxi leaves

Standing in the front yard, telling me
How I'm such a fool, talking 'bout
How I'll never ever find a man like you
You got me twisted

You must not know 'bout me
You must not know 'bout me
I could have another you in a minute
Matter fact, he'll be here in a minute (baby)

You must not know 'bout me
You must not know 'bout me
I can have another you by tomorrow
So don't you ever for a second get to thinkin'
You're irreplaceable (irreplaceable)?

So since I'm not your everything (irreplaceable)
How about I'll be nothing (nothing)? Nothing at all to you (nothing, nothing)
Baby I won't shed a tear for you (I won't shed a tear for you)
I won't lose a wink of sleep (a wink of sleep)
'Cause the truth of the matter is (truth is)
Replacing you is so easy

Project 2 Reflection

In Project 2, I used sequential writing as a second fundamental feature of multimedia writing through text, images, sequence through links and also a movie of images that I made through movie maker. This project is about my journey from Pittsburgh to WVU and how I wound up in West Virginia. Through sequential writing I was able to tract my journey at WVU from my freshman to senior year.

At the beginning of my project, I used links to images of Kent State University (where I wanted to go to school) and Duquesne University (where my mother wanted me to go to school).I also have images of the flying WV logo and the "Oakland Zoo" logo to represent my roots to the University of Pittsburgh. There is also a link to the sophomore year page that moves my story on sequentially.

On the very last page, which is my Senior year page, is a movie of images that I made through Windows Movie Maker. The pictures are put in sequential order from my freshman to senior year at WVU. I got a little emotional while doing this movie because I have made some many memories during my 4 years here. I would not change any of my experiences in the world or the friends that I have made in college. I'm going to keep this video to remind me of all the memories of my college friends and the things we did during the "best time of our lives."

Here is another link to project 2.

Project 2 Critique

So far, my project 2 is going pretty good. I have a vision that I want to go in but the only difficult part is figuring out which format to use sequentially. I decided that I want to use the link as sequential writing and also google maps to show location and also as a reference point. I need help with linking photos to project 2 and also incorporating googles maps onto my blog for the project.

Ego Trippin' Post #4

I used Audacity to record a poem and also to import an instrumental. The poem I decided to recite was Nikki Giovanni's Ego Trippin' and the instrumental was Kanye West's Cant Tell Me Nothin'. (Kanye West wrote as well as produced this instrumental) I felt that it was only appropriate to recite this poem over this particular instrumental because both have an "ego" or cocky feel to both the poem and instrumental.

Ego Trippin' is a powerful poem that calls for all Black women to embrace their heritage and understand that they are beautiful women too. In the song Can't Tell Me Nothin', Kanye West bascially says that he is better than everyone and you can't tell him nothin' about it. He samples a Blues singer for the background vocals and the tempo is slowed down like southern rap songs. Also, I reversed the instrumental so it sounds a little distorted.

Thoughts on Project #2

I want use a 9th wonder instrumental as my sound. 9th wonder is a hip-hop producer. He has worked with smaller-named hip hop artists like Little Brother. Audacity would be a great audio program to manipulate the instrumental. I still haven't decided which 9th wonder instrumental I'm going to use. I was also thinking about creating a movie or sequential images on my journey and my life at WVU.

Response Numéro Deux

Scott McCloud is a comic theorist on comics being literary and an artistic medium. During last class, we discussed his comic strips and how the page on which it is displayed can be infinite and sequential writing. McCloud employs sequential writing through time frames and sequences through links.

McCloud's ideas are represented in Return to Sender; not all of the frames have words but the reader can still comprehend what is going on through the images. This is the beauty of comics. Also, it seems as though each frame last only 1-2 seconds.

In Rice, amplification through simplification is used. On the main web page, this is a collage of pictures that contains hyperlinks to another web page. The hyperlink leads to another hyperlink that reveals an image and a poem.

Project 1-final draft

At first, I wanted to do a project on fashion but I decided to change my topic to "Paper Planes" because I could not get the song "Paper Planes" by M.I.A. out of mind. I decided to manufacture my project visually through power point. I googled paper planes and copied and pasted the image you see above. I decided to leave the background white because it gives the optical illusion that the planes are flying through the air. The words spin and fly in but I could not upload the powerpoint onto my blog. It also has M.I.A.'s "Paper planes" streaming in the background.

The lyrics to the M.I.A. song fits in perfectly with this concrete image. The lyrics"I fly like paper, get high like planes," are really up for interpretation. Like for all great songs, listeners interpret the message the way the want and how it relates to their life. "Flying like paper" could literally mean to fly like a paper plane or it could mean soar through life without a care in a word. Also, "get high like planes" could mean to be high off of drugs. To me, the song means to be "fly", meaning to be stylish and coordinating your clothes well. Or to be flawless in your attire.

Here is the video for "Paper Planes"

As you can see in the very being of the video, paper planes are soaring through the sky

Choosy mothers....

Create a multimedia writing as a concrete visual text.

I want my project to be visually attractive and grab my audience's attention right away. I'm probably going to use a haiku poem of some sort. Powerpoint is probably the best program to use for this project.

Since I love fashion, I want to incorporate different elements of my own style into the visual text. The best way to express my love for fashion is to represent it through my favorite tennis shoe; Nike Blazers.  As far as the text, I want to create a poem about being stylish in college. Since many college students are broke, it is often hard to wear expensive clothes. But, I improvise purchasing nice, stylish clothes that are on sale racks. For the background, I want to use very appealing visual elements that appears to be an advertisement or billboard.

Being Online Autobiography

First and foremost, I love the internet. I have been surfing the web since elementary school during library class. I use the internet to buy clothes, read gossip blogs, pay bills, and also to complete homework assignments. I am most definitely a digital native. I love to have the latest gadgets to show off to my friends. At home, the internet was used very often. Growing up I remember playing the Sims online and my little sister being upset that I would be on the computer for hours. My mother did not like the computer games, she really only wanted my siblings and I to use the computer for educational purposes only.

The sites I most often visit are: bossip.com, drjay.com, and the WVU mix website. I use to have a webpage but I stopped using it after it became boring to me. I love to AIM my friends from high school and also my grandfather who lives in New Jersey. Right now my facebook account is deactivated because I feel that it is a waste of time.

I spend about 2 hours on the web everyday. The only writing I do on the web is through ecampus.
